In Andhra Pradesh, construction of new roads has started in villages which did not have road facilities for decades. These villages are being given priority in Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana-4. Originally 685 villages have been identified. In four years, asphalt roads will be built in these villages and connected to the surrounding main roads. PM Gramin Sadak Yojana-3 will end at the end of March. The Center has issued guidelines to all the states to prepare DPR for the work to be done in the fourth phase under this scheme. New asphalt roads will be built in plain areas with population more than 500, backward areas with population more than 200 and Naxal-affected areas with population more than 100.
For the works to be done in the first phase of PMGSY-4 in AP, DPR will be prepared by the end of January and sent to the Center for approval. Out of the 685 villages initially identified in the state, new roads will be built in 150 villages in the first phase. Engineers are checking the current condition of village roads at the field level.
