5738 PM These buses in 12 states.. Plan to bring more electric vehicles!

PM behind meter power infrastructure in 66 cities to strengthen infrastructure required for e-buses. Rs 884 crore has been approved. Out of which Rs. States and one Union Territory were given Rs 438 crore. Apart from this, the Central Government is also working towards automatic fare collection system in PM e-buses.

Under the PM e-bus service, electric buses will start operating in more than 100 cities early this year. Proposals received from 77 cities in 12 states and union territories were approved. So far, proposals for 5738 buses have been received from these cities. Tenders were floated at many places. Union Minister of State for Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said that the Central Government wants to take the transport infrastructure in urban areas to a new level through the Prime Minister e-Bus service.

Under this scheme, central assistance of Rs 20,000 crore will be provided to bring 10,000 electric buses. This scheme will remain operational till March 2037. Sahu said that the scheme is very important from the point of view of urban development, as it will also provide support for development and modernization of bus depots and charging infrastructure in eligible cities.

States that have adopted e-buses include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Assam. Similarly, if we look at the cities… Bilaspur, Korba, Raipur, Gaya, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur in Chhattisgarh, Patna, Ajmer, Bhilwara in Bihar, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Ulhasnagar, Akola in Maharashtra. There are cities like Kolhapur in Gujarat, Rourkela in Gujarat, Bhavnagar in Odisha, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhopal, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. The Central Government has approved the construction of bus depot and charging infrastructure.

It may be noted that in the second phase of this scheme, it has been decided to provide central assistance to green urban mobility projects. This will be a supplementary scheme for bus services. Apart from this, the Central Government is working towards automatic fare collection system in PM e-buses.
