The 8th Pay Commission makes recommendations on salary increases for central government employees. Recommends Fitment Factor which is a key coefficient used to calculate salaries and pensions of government employees. It has been said in various reports that this time the salary of the employees is likely to increase from Rs 2.57 to Rs 2.86 due to the 8th Pay Commission. If the fitment factor is 2.86, there is a possibility of a significant increase in the minimum basic pay of Rs 18,000. Here’s a look at the pay increases as per the recommendations of the last few pay commissions.
7th pay commission salary increase
According to the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor is 2.57, which means the basic pay of central government employees and pensioners will be multiplied by 2.57.
6th pay commission salary increase
According to the Sixth Pay Commission, while the fitment factor is 1.86 percent, the basic pay of central government employees and pensioners has increased to 1.86 percent.
5th pay commission salary increase
In the 5th Pay Commission, 40 percent of the basic pay in the existing pay scale was added to the ‘prevailing pay’.
What does the Eighth Pay Commission do?
The government appoints a Pay Commission to review and recommend changes in the pay system of government employees, taking into account factors such as inflation, economic conditions, income inequality, etc. The Commission reviews bonuses, allowances and other benefits given to government employees in addition to the basic salary. The Central Pay Commission is constituted once every decade to evaluate the pay scales of government employees and suggest revisions.
