AP new DGP: Harish Kumar Gupta again in the race for AP DGP..! DGP Dwarka Tirumala Rao will retire at the end of this month.

AP New DGP: Discussion has started once again on the selection of new DGP in AP. Since the current DGP Dwarka Tirumala Rao is going to retire at the end of January, it has become interesting to see who will be selected in his place. The selection of a new DGP is inevitable because the state government has not yet sent any proposal to UPSC regarding the continuation of the current DGP.

At the same time, the name of former DGP Harish Kumar Gupta is prominent in the race for the new DGP. The Central Election Commission had appointed Harish Kumar Gupta as DGP in May last year. The failure of the police to make arrangements and the massive traffic jam in the city during the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on June 12 last year has been controversial. Even VIPs could not reach the swearing-in ceremony on time. After this, the state government unexpectedly selected Dwaraka Tirumala Rao as DGP on June 21.

Since the tenure of Dwaraka Tirumala Rao will end on January 31, there is a discussion among the officials whether he will be extended for some more time or not. After the Davos visit, the Chief Minister will take a decision on the selection of the new DGP. Anjani Kumar, who was first in seniority after Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, could not make it to the AP cadre. His successor Harish Kumar Gupta will retire in August 2025. If Dwaraka Tirumala Rao’s tenure is extended then Harish Kumar will not get a chance as DGP. It seems that the government is planning to give a chance to Harish Kumar on the basis of seniority.

On May 6 last year, the Central Election Commission had selected Harish Kumar Gupta for the post of DGP. In this regard, orders were issued to CS Jawahar Reddy to appoint Harish Kumar Gupta of 1992 IPS batch as DGP. On May 5, AP DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy was transferred by the Election Commission.

In the wake of political allegations, Rajendranath Reddy was transferred by the Election Commission and Harish was selected as his replacement. The names of Dwarka Tirumala Rao, Harish Kumar Gupta and Madireddy Pratap, in order of seniority, were suggested to APCSEC. Among these, EC has selected senior IPS Harish Kumar Gupta of 1992 batch as DGP. Harish Kumar from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected for AP cadre.

In terms of seniority, Harish is followed by Sitaramanjaneu and KV Rajendranath Reddy. After that Nalini Prabhat and Mahesh Dixit from 93 batch are in Central Services. Amit Garg is at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. The 94 batch includes PV Sunil, Kumar Vishwajeet, Ravi Shankar Iyennar, Balasubramaniam. After Harish Kumar, Balasubramaniam, Ravi Shankar Ayyannar and Kumar Vishwajeet are in the race for DGP.
