Bank Strike: Banks are ‘closed’ for 2 days to fulfill the demands!

Possibility of banks going on strike! AIBOC (All India Bank Officers Confederation) has decided to meet its demands or face closure of banks for two days.

The PTI report said that there is a possibility that public sector banks in India will remain closed on February 24 and 25, 2025.

Banks are closed for two days

The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has warned that it will call a two-day nationwide strike on February 24 and 25 to press for a five-day working week, adequate appointments in all cadres and other demands.

What are the demands?

  • The union demands that bank employees be given a five-day work week. Actually, this demand has been heard for many years. But no decision has been taken yet.
  • Banks should make proper appointments in all cadres.
  • The recent orders of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) on performance review and PLI, which pose a threat to job security and create divisions among employees, should be immediately withdrawn.
  • The posts of worker/officer directors should be filled in public sector banks.
  • Indian Banking Association (IBA) has been asked to resolve the pending issues.

When is the bank strike planned?

The union alleged that micro-management by the DFS of public sector banks (PSBs) in policy matters has weakened the autonomy of the respective boards.

All India Bank Officers Confederation said in a statement that its working group has proposed to organize a nationwide strike for two days i.e. Monday-Tuesday on 24th and 25th of next month.

If necessary, there is a possibility of taking more stringent steps. He has made it clear that the agitation programs will start as soon as the strike notice is received this month.

Let’s see how serious this matter is! If banks really go on strike, will the private sector also join in? Or? That must be seen. However, the bank strike is sure to cause serious problems for the people! Apart from this, there are also holidays on 22 February (fourth Saturday) and 23 February (Sunday). That means if there is a strike on 24th and 25th then banks will remain closed for 4 consecutive days.
