Instagram Reels: Reels can be created on Instagram for up to 3 minutes – is this a loss for creators?
Important update for content creators on Instagram! The company has announced that the length of the reels, which till now was 90 seconds, will be increased to 3 minutes. But, does this cause problems to the creators? Doubts began to arise.
Instagram reels are now 3 minutes long…
Instagram head Adam Musseri said that the length of reels is being increased to 3 minutes. That means it is double the time of 90 seconds. Musseri revealed that this decision would be useful in enhancing his creativity. However, he reiterated that Instagram is committed to creating short-form videos. But it is reported that the latest decision will help increase the flexibility of content creators. It has been clarified that feedback has been received that the length of Instagram Reels is too ‘restrictive’ and these changes have been made accordingly.
Is it beneficial for creators? or loss?
In this era of short user attention spans, companies providing short form content are increasing their length. YouTube has also decided to change the length of its short form content shorts from 1 minute to 3 minutes in October 2024.
Increasing the length of reels like this is nothing new for Instagram. Since about two years ago, it is giving the opportunity to upload videos of 1 minute 30 seconds. Additionally, the company has tested multiple times on 10 minute long reels, which actually says that longer duration videos are not encouraged. But this was not implemented. Now the duration of the reels has been increased to 3 minutes. Let’s see how much the length of these reels will increase in the coming days.
But it remains to be seen how much this will benefit the content creators. Let’s see how user behavior changes. There is also the possibility of damaging the reach by dropping larger reels halfway. Will Instagram users get used to these longer reels? This has now become the biggest question.
In fact, Instagram has said many times before that long reels are a threat to creators.
