Republic Day: 76th Republic Day is celebrated all over the country.. but not there.. do you know why?
People celebrated 71st Republic Day in Yanam near East Godavari district. This is different from all others. After many struggles, the country gained independence in 1947. Yanam, which was under the rule of the French government, gained independence on November 1, 1954. Escreuille, the then French Commissioner, asked for due priority and protection to be given to the French ruled areas of Yanam as well as Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahela.
Agreement with the then Prime Minister..
He left the country after compromising with the country’s then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. This temporary agreement was signed in 1956. Later Yanam was converted into a union territory. Even though everyone in Yanam speaks in Telugu, the AP government is not ruling. It is located within the union territory of Puducherry. Puducherry is ruled by Telugu speaking people. The MLA here is also Telugu. But he will go to Puducherry Assembly. Puducherry, the capital of Yanam, is in a remote area.
between two districts
Yanam Ummadi has an area of 30 square kilometers in East Godavari. However..with the division of districts, Yanam lies between Kakinada and Ambedkar Konseema districts. All Yanam activities take place from Puducherry. If not, the lifestyle of the people will be in the culture and traditions here. Yanam was earlier known as Kalyanapuram. Because child marriage was banned in the country by the Saradha Act in 1929, child marriages were still taking place in the Yanam region.
In the lap of nature..
Yanam is situated at the confluence of Godavari River and Coringa River. Yanam is very beautiful in nature. Abundant with greenery, with flowing water, trees and crop fields, Yanam also has low prices for goods. Because tax exemption is available here. There is no need to say much about alcohol. Liquor is available at very low prices. Compared to the state, prices of other commodities are also low. Here people organize local festivals and celebrations. Ila Yanam has many peculiarities.
