Sankranti Celebrations: Sankranti Celebrations in Godavari Districts – Festival Spirit on Social Media
Sankranti Celebration: When it comes to etiquette and hospitality, Godarola seems to be funny. All Sankranti festivals take place in the Godavari districts. They celebrate with games, songs and chicken races. People who are somewhere should reach their homes and enjoy. On the other hand, as the festival of Sankranti approaches, the enthusiasm for the festival has increased on social media.
The movements of the Godavari remind us that Sankranti is approaching. People who are from somewhere come a week or two or three days before the festival. They ensure that no obstacles come in their way throughout the day. Favorite dishes are served at Aritaku. Guests coming to the house are welcomed at the threshold by applying water on their hands and feet and their feet are washed. A towel is given on the shoulders to wipe hands. They start talking with a heart full of appreciation and say, “Was the trip good?” They happily spend their time with chicken races, fairs, movies and the beauty of the countryside.
People who are in other areas for jobs and employment are coming here to celebrate Sankranti. Along with them, people from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Orissa and Maharashtra also come as guests in this festival. For those who are employed and working abroad, especially in Gulf countries, all arrangements have already been made for them to come home during the festival.
children were playing with brother and sister-in-law
As Sankranti is approaching, the noise in the houses of the newlyweds is not stopping. Daughters-in-law follow the etiquette of celebrating the first festival of their son-in-law as per their capacity. The groom is welcomed in a unique way. They show their affection by serving various types of dishes at the banquet. Last year, a businessman family from Bhimavaram had organized a dinner with 173 types of dishes for their son-in-law. Another family from Housing Board Colony arranged a feast with 100 types of pastries for their future son-in-law.
The son-in-law, who is coming to the festival for the first time, is invited home by Bhimavara’s in-laws on Edla Bandhi accompanied by drums and Sannai Melam. The son-in-law was surprised by the feast made of 29 dishes popular in 29 states of the country. This is not the hustle and bustle of aunties in all the villages when the new son-in-law comes home for the first time on the festival. Sunnunda, Kajjikaya, Ariselas, Pokunda, Gorumiti etc. are prepared. They make fun of brother-in-law and brother-in-law by saying that they have eaten less. Brother-in-law and brother-in-law are teased by throwing mortar from glasses, pongada from marbles and buzzing with hot chillies. The new son-in-law left no stone unturned in hospitality. Godarolles are café addresses for relatives and relatives.
