The stock market fell in the trading session of Monday, January 13, 2025, with real estate, media, IT and telecom stocks falling the most. BSE Sensex fell 1,048.90 points to 76,330.01. Nifty fell 345.55 points and closed at 23,085.95. Rupee today reached a record low of 86.62 against the dollar.

Why did the rupee fall so much?

The rupee declined on the back of better-than-expected US employment data, a stronger dollar, record equity selling of Rs 2,254.68 crore by foreign investors on Friday and rising crude oil prices.

Which stocks fell the most?

Among all the 30 Sensex stocks, Zomato Limited fell the most by 6.52 percent. Closed at 227.15. After this, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited fell by 4.09 percent to close at Rs 287.55 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited fell by 4.08 percent to close at Rs 1,066.75.

Only four Sensex stocks were in profit. Axis Bank Ltd rose 0.78 per cent to Rs 1,048.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd rose 0.62 per cent to Rs 4,291.80, Hindustan Unilever Ltd rose 0.45 per cent to Rs 2,453 and IndusInd Bank Ltd rose 0.41 per cent to Rs 941.45.

How are individual sectors performing?

Among Nifty sectoral indices, Nifty Realty fell the most at 901 with a fall of 6.47 per cent, Nifty Media fell by 4.54 per cent at 1,664.50 and Nifty IT & Telecom fell by 4.20 per cent at 10,211.85. All sector indices are in the red.
