Telangana vs Andhra Pradesh: ‘Justice’ on AP irrigation projects …! Telangana government in Supreme Court
The Telangana government will resort to the Supreme Court on the Link Scheme of Godavari-Banakcherla Link Scheme and Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) proposed by the Government of Telangana.
The decision was taken at a high -level review meeting chaired by Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy in Jalsaudi, Hyderabad on Friday. The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu recently approved the Polavaram-Banakchara link project.
Violation of law …!
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that a special meeting will be held with the Permanent Councils and Advocate General of the Department of Irrigation and Advocates on the strategies to be followed in the Supreme Court. In 1980, the Polavaram-Benkarala link project was violated by the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (JWDT) Award and 2014 Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act (APRA).
In August 2020, the YS Jagan government has taken the Rayalaseema Lifting Scheme (RLIS) to provide irrigation water in Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantpur and Chittoor in four districts of Rayalaseema. The Telangana government has decided to challenge the scheme.
Minister Uttam said that he will protect his legitimate part in the water of Godavari and Krishna river. These two irrigation projects brought by AP government…. He said that water pumps were violating contracts. Telangana irrigation projects and drinking water should be a serious threat.
Minister Uttam said that there are unilateral projects without the permission of Andhra Pradesh relevant regulatory officers. Telangana government will not be silent in this regard …
The AP government has decided to diversify 200 TMC water from the Bolpalli reservoir and Bankarla head regulator at the Polavaram -Banrabarakacharla link project at an estimated cost of Rs 80,112 crore. It proposes to connect the Godavari, Krishna and Penna rivers.
The AP cabinet has approved the establishment of a special objective vehicle (SPV) in the name of Polavaram-Banachers link project in the name of Jal Harathi Corporation owned by 100 % state.
Through the RLIS project, three TMC water will be picked up from Sriselum reservoir near Santameswaram at a cost of Rs 3,278 crore. Srisalam will be pumped into the right main canal (SRMC) and diluted in various irrigation canals in four districts.
The reconsideration government hopes that there will be a severe water shortage with the project in Telangana. As part of it … it has decided to resort to the Supreme Court. The Telangana government says that Andhra Pradesh has not received permission from the top council for the Central Water Union (CWC), ownership board (GRMB) of Godavari River, Krishna River Ownership Board (KRMB) and Polvaram-Banakkharla Link Project.
Minister Uttam alleged that the Andhra Pradesh AP was trying to receive central funds using sections 46 (2) and 46 (3) of the AP division act, which would enable the development of backward areas. However, such rules have been warned that legitimate permits and environmental protection cannot be overcome.
