TG New Ration Card: Movement of new ration cards in villages.

People in Telangana have been waiting for new ration cards for years. The process of issuing new cards has started recently. The government has initially identified 6.68 lakh families across the state as eligible for the new cards. This list has been sent to 33 districts. Objections will be collected by organizing village and township meetings from 20th to 24th of this month. Officials say that after this the final list will be finalized.

On 26 January.

The Civil Supplies Department will provide the cards as per the list received from the collectors. Issuance of new cards will start from January 26. However, people of many villages are expressing concern that their names are not in the current list. Panchayat secretaries are being removed from their posts. Due to this they are afraid of going to the village.

Didn’t come for us..

Recently a protest was held in B Annaram village. The people of that village raised slogans saying ‘We have applied… we have not received the ration card’. They protested in front of the Gram Panchayat office. Not only in B. Annaram’s village, the situation is similar in many villages. The applicants are making rounds of the houses of Congress leaders in the villages.

Anger of seniors..

Some field level officers showed enthusiasm and revealed the names of the people included in the list. Due to this, those people whose names are not in the list are expressing concern. Higher officials are expressing displeasure over the fact that the names in the list were leaked even before the village and settlement meetings were held. Officials at the field level are afraid of organizing village and settlement meetings.

Huge demand..

Ration card is the basis for welfare schemes like free electricity up to 200 units, gas cylinder for Rs 500, fee reimbursement for students and Aarogyasri in the state. There is a lot of demand for it. Earlier applications were taken and scrutinized online. But the present government is adopting a new approach. It is based on a comprehensive household survey conducted in November last year. Through that survey, the Civil Supplies Department took details of those people who did not have ration cards.

Ups and downs..

The authorities have filtered the information of those who want new cards and those who have applied to enroll their names in the existing cards. After this process, initially 6,68,309 families were identified as eligible for the new cards. There are 11,65,052 names in these families. Officials say that after the issuance of new cards, there will be fluctuations in the number of beneficiaries in villages and gram sabhas.

Fear of leaders..

It seems that the names of those who had applied online earlier are in the existing list. People allege that in the recent public administration, there were less names of those who applied. To do good, the government has started the process of issuing new ration cards. But Congress leaders are expressing apprehension that those who will not get the card are in danger of wandering in their villages.
