Along with TikTok, apps like ByteDance’s Capcut and Lemon8 have also been banned. They are also not available for offline use. Amidst the latest developments, ByteDance management has pinned millions of expectations on the future US President Donald Trump.
If you open TikTok..
“The US law banning TikTok came into effect on January 19. We are concerned that our services may be temporarily suspended. We are working hard to restore our services in the US as soon as possible. We ask for your support. Appreciate it. Please stay.” Notifications appear in the app, TikTok said.
“We are fortunate to be able to signal that President Trump will work with us to restore TikTok once he takes office,” the ByteDance-owned app said.
Why is TikTok banned in America?
Federal legislation enacted last year has created confusion over TikTok’s activities in the United States. Laws has warned that the Chinese parent company must withdraw from ByteDance and is giving a deadline of 9 months. That nine-month period ended on January 19.
TikTok appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and then to the Supreme Court, arguing that the federal law limited the First Amendment rights of all Americans.
But the Supreme Court unanimously rejected TikTok’s appeal.. “There is no doubt that TikTok provides more than 170 million Americans with a personal, distinctive, and comprehensive outlet for community. “But Congress has determined that removing the app is necessary to address national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary,” it said.
What did Trump say?
Newly elected President Donald Trump will take office on January 20. After this, he has already indicated to give 90 days time to TikTok.
Speaking to NBC, Trump said there was every possibility of a 90-day extension. “If I decide to do that, I’ll probably announce it on Monday,” Trump clarified.
Meanwhile, Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer said TikTok should be given more time to find a buyer in the US. However, he said that he will work with the Trump government in this regard.
