TRAI’s new rules 2025: 90 days validity even if not recharged
TRAI’s new rules 2025: Now more people are using more than one SIM card for smartphones. On the other hand, telecom companies are continuously increasing recharge tariffs. In such a situation, recharging more than one SIM card is becoming a burden for the users. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given good news to such people. It has announced rules to keep the SIM active for 90 days even if not recharged.
Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL
TRAI’s new rules apply to the validity of SIM cards of telecom providers like Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL. These guidelines issued by TRAI aim to increase the active period of SIM cards of Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL.
- air tele: Airtel SIM cards work for more than 90 days without recharge. After that, users will get a grace period of 15 days to reactivate their number. If recharge is not done after this time, the same number will not be available to the user. It will be assigned to another new user.
- Earth: Jio SIM cards work for 90 days without recharge. Then a reactivation plan is needed. After 90 days, if the user chooses not to recharge the SIM, it will be permanently disconnected and transferred to another user.
- vodafone idea (Vodafone Idea): Vi users can go for 90 days without recharging their SIM card. If users want to keep their number active then they will have to recharge a plan of at least Rs 49 on their number. If recharge is not done after this time, the number will become inactive.
- BSNL: State-owned BSNL offers the highest SIM validity period. Without recharge, BSNL SIM card remains active for 180 days. If you want to avoid frequent recharge then this extended plan is one of your best options. If the user has a prepaid balance of Rs 20 on the number and the SIM is inactive for more than 90 days, the money will be deducted to extend the SIM activation by 30 days. However, insufficient balance will result in the SIM being canceled and made available to new customers.
