Turmeric Board: The long awaited National Turmeric Board finally got Nizamabad. Union Commerce Minister Piyush will virtually launch the National Yellow Board today. BJP leader Palle Gangareddy has been appointed chairman of the Yellow Board.

Farmers of Nizamabad district have been demanding yellow board for years. In this sequence, the Central Government has decided to establish National Yellow Board in Indore and Nizamabad. During the election campaign, BJP has announced that if they come to power, they will put up a yellow board in Nizamabad.

During the 2023 Telangana Assembly election campaign, Prime Minister Modi had promised to give the yellow board in a meeting held in Mahabubnagar on October 1. On October 4 of the same year, the Central Commerce Department issued a gazette notification in this regard. However, it does not mention where it is being installed. The Center on Monday announced the formation of the Nizamabad Board. The Central Commerce Department has issued an order appointing BJP leader Palle Gangareddy of Ankapur village in Armur mandal of Nizamabad district as the president.

Palle Gangareddy will remain in office for three years. Gangareddy is currently the state secretary of BJP. MP Dharmapuri Arvind told that on Tuesday, on the occasion of Sankranti festival, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will launch the main work rhythm of the Yellow Board in the center of Nizamabad through video conference from Delhi.

The work of National Turmeric Board will start from Tuesday at the Regional Spices Board office in Nizamabad. India is the largest producer of turmeric in the world, accounting for 75% of the world’s turmeric cultivation and 62% of the market.

In the financial year 2022-23, turmeric crop was cultivated in 3.24 lakh hectares across the country. The production was 11.61 lakh tonnes. It is estimated that this is 75% of the world’s crop. The highest production in the country was in Maharashtra with 2.78 lakh tonnes, followed by Telangana with 2.32 lakh tonnes. The National Turmeric Board also faced tough competition from Maharashtra.

With the establishment of Turmeric Board, the Board will help the farmers to grow quality crops and maintain India’s dominance in the global market. Members of the Central Department of AYUSH Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture and Commerce are appointed as members in this board. Senior officials from the three major turmeric producing states will be in charge of the center by rotation.

Membership is given to experts working in Central/State research institutions, turmeric farmers and exporters. Union Commerce Secretary will be appointed. Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat has become a big factor in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. To attract the attention of the Central Government, 176 farmers filed nominations. In that election, 12 EVMs had to be used at each booth. 30 turmeric farmers from Indore also filed nominations in Varanasi from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was contesting the elections. This topic was the main topic of discussion at that time.

Dharmapuri Arvind, who contested the election as a BJP candidate in Nizamabad, promised to bring the yellow board within 100 days if he wins. Despite winning the elections, he was criticized for the delay in forming the board. Finally, Arvind expressed happiness over the Centre’s announcement that the board is being set up in Nizamabad.

Gangareddy, who was appointed the first chairman of the Yellow Board, was born in a farmer family in Ankapur. Studied till degree. Worked in RSS for some years. From 1901 to 1993 Palle Gangareddy served as the President of Ankapur Village Committee and from 1993 to 1997 as the President of Kavach Mandal of BJP. He served as District President of Yuva Morcha, State Vice President of Kisan Morcha, District Secretary and District President of BJP for two terms. He is the state secretary of BJP since 2020.
