Deepinder Goyal: Deepinder Goyal, chief executive officer (CEO) of online food delivery platform Zomato Ltd, has apologized to consumers for charging “wage mode enablement fee” by the platform. ‘This is sheer stupidity. I’m sorry for this. We will remove this charge today,” Zomato chief Goyal responded to a customer’s LinkedIn post on Friday. Goyal assured the public through social media that the company will correct the false allegations made against consumers. The CEO of Zomato said that he will fix his team so that such problem does not arise again. ‘We will decide what needs to be done in the team so that such things do not happen again. Thanks for pointing this out,’ Deepinder Goyal responded to the IIM graduate post.

Rohit Ranjan, an IIM Kozhikode graduate and former senior executive at Big Basket, posted on LinkedIn. In that post, he criticized food delivery platform Zomato for charging Rs 2 “Veg Mode Enablement Fee” per order. “Being vegetarian in India these days feels like a curse!” Ranjan said in his post on LinkedIn. Along with the post, he also shared a screenshot of his Zomato bill. He highlighted that Zomato is charging Rs 2 as additional fee for ordering vegetarian food. A former Big Basket employee alleged, “Zomato’s latest masterstroke is to charge ‘extra’ for the vegan-enabled fleet. This has officially made us a premium subscription plan.”

The problem was resolved by the company within one to one and a half hours of Goyal’s reply. As Goyal had promised, the hidden charge was dropped. Zomato share price rose 3.02 percent and traded at Rs 249.30 in the stock market session on Friday.
