Tadepalli Retaining Wall: Breathe in Tadepalli.. Permanent relief from Krishna floods by construction of retaining wall.
Tadepalli Retaining Wall: Tadepalli area of Guntur district will get permanent relief from Krishna floods. To protect the houses of the poor from floods, a retaining wall has already been constructed on the Vijayawada bank of the Krishna river and now a retaining wall will also be constructed at Tadepalli village in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district on the right bank of the river. .
After the completion of Prakasam Barrage, embankments were built above and below the barrage four to five decades ago to prevent floods of the Krishna River from drowning the population. Over time, due to mismanagement of the Irrigation Department, settlements were established in those areas which should have been limited to agriculture below the embankments.
Governments are also giving house plots to the poor in river catchment areas. Over the last fifty years thousands of houses have been built on river bank lands in Krishna and Guntur districts. Lakhs of people have spread out. The situation has become so bad that it is impossible to remove it. After the division of the state, the retaining wall was first constructed towards Vijayawada city.
In 2014, under the TDP government, the construction of retaining wall was first started in Yanamalakuduru area. Between 2019–24, permanent wall construction was carried out from Krishna Lanka to Yanamala Kuduru. The Vijayawada side got some relief from the Krishna floods.
Due to the construction of flood protection wall on the left bank of Krishna river in Vijayawada, Krishna Lanka, Ranigari Thota and other low-lying areas were inundated despite the flood of 11.43 lakh cusecs during the flood in Krishna river in September last year. Not impressed. Now the AP Cabinet has approved the construction of retaining on Tadepalli side also.
Nara Lokesh kept his promise
The right side of Krishna comes under Mangalagiri constituency. Mangalagiri was represented by YCP when it was in power. At the same time when the construction work of the wall was going on in Vijayawada, the local people appealed to the Tadepalli side to start the construction of the wall, but the government did not respond. As a result, Sundarayya Nagar and Sitanagaram areas of Tadepalli were submerged during the Krishna river floods between 2020-24. Last year, when there was flood in Krishna river, these areas had to remain submerged in water for several days. The local people appealed to Minister Lokesh regarding this and steps were taken to build a retaining wall.
The State Council of Ministers has approved the proposals for grant of administrative permission worth Rs 294.20 crore for the construction of flood protection wall from 0.9 km to 2.61 km on the right bank of Krishna river below Prakasam Barrage. A permanent flood protection wall will also be constructed below the Prakasam Barrage on the right bank of the Krishna River. On the petition of the people of Sundariya Nagar, Mahanadu Colony and other slum areas under Tadepalli, the Council of Ministers approved the construction of this flood protection wall.
